Near my house in the middle of the forest lives a retired biology teacher. His garden is a birds paradise, densely populated with tress and shrubs. It would be a suitable setting for a fairy tale.
The garden is full of wild animals like foxes, roe deer, martens. It’s the home of a tawny owl, which chased away the barn owl.
This summer, I left my recording gear in his garden and made a recording that lasted as long as the batteries lasted, more than 8 hours. Listening back, I found out that there was a period in the middle of the night that has been very quiet. No animal sounds, just low frequency rumbling of far away noises. It’s this silence that I released as Last Night.
